The Odd Man Affair is the twenty-ninth episode of the First Season of 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' and stars Robert Vaughn as chief enforcement agent Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as his partner, agent Illya Kuryakin. This is the last episode of Season 1.
Synopsis[]
When a retired U.N.C.L.E. agent is recruited to impersonate a crime lord, he decides to take the mission into his own hands. Solo and Illya must protect him as he infiltrates a crime conference.[1]
Plot[]
Solo and Ilia have followed a terrorist, Janos, onto a plane and hope to apprehend the man once he reaches his destination. Unfortunately, by the time the plane lands, someone has tipped off the Paris police that Janos is on the plane and he kills himself to avoid capture. They do manage to capture his luggage, though, and detonate a concealed hand grenade that Janos had brought with him on the flight (disguised as a cigarette lighter). Because both Solo and Ilia are too young to impersonate Janos, a retired agent named Albert Sully is brought into the case; he had worked with Janos in the French resistance. Dressed in Janos's clothes and wearing his special explosive button, Sully arrives at a key meeting place for the terrorists and the button is recognized by one of the aides of a traitor in their ranks - the man who called the police in the first place. Learning that the next meeting will take place at a cafeteria where the time and location will be given by a performer, Sully recruits his old flame, Bryn Watson - who knew the codes of their Resistance cell - to decipher the message. The location turns out to be that of the traitor's home, where he hopes to frame the supposed Janos as a traitor. During the meeting the traitor manages to place a fake button on Sully's jacket that contains a poisoned needle, but Sully manages to slip it onto the back of the traitor's jacket just before he triggers the trap. After the meeting is over, Sully says goodbye to Bryn, Solo and Ilia: he's going to use Janos's identity as a means of dismantling the terrorist circle for good.
